you had a fantastic run but i suppose it had to end eventually. after nine and a half years of support, claude julien was fired as head coach of the boston bruins and rumors are beginning to swirl as to who can replace the stanley cup-winning coach.
it’s apparent that bruins’ management wasn’t delighted with the way the club was heading in, with just 58 points after 55 games, but what’s not too clear is precisely what they expected. almost everyone predicted that the b’s are a group to the outside looking in and it seemed all but certain that julien would be relieved of his post in the finish of the season. the impatience of this new nhl, but reared its ugly head once again and among the greatest coaches in the league is now looking for work — which i’m sure he’ll see in short order. the timing could not have been better for the bruins as it was unlikely they’d confront much backlash from the public and the media together with the patriots celebrating their most recent super bowl win with a parade in downtown boston at precisely the exact same time the bruins announced the shooting.
betonline has put lines on who will end up the upcoming full-time coach of the original six team from massachusetts and there are some recognizable names close to the top of the list. with former panthers bench boss gerard gallant coming in at +200 and the recently fired ken hitchcock being available in +400.
assistant coach bruce cassidy will take over head coaching duties in the meantime and he’s the current favorite to take over the fulltime job with +160 chances. before he had been promoted to the club at the start of the 2016-17 year, cassidy served as the head coach of the bruins’ ahl affiliate in providence for five years. it’s very likely that bruins’ direction has been grooming the ottawa, ontario native for the significant job so it makes a great deal of sense that he’s the favorite.
with groups like the penguins, blues, panthers and the islanders all using this method using their recent full-time head coach hirings, i could observe the bruins doing exactly the identical thing. i am not sure what it requires to keep a job as a head coach in the nhl anymore but if claude julien doesn’t have it, nobody will.
here is the whole list of future full-time head coaches for the bruins given at betonline:
